How the birth card calculator works
No calculator handy? You can do it on paper. Split your birth date into four two-digit numbers and add them.
Add the four numbers
Use your month, day, and year (split in two). For example, June 11, 1992: 06 + 11 + 19 + 92 = 128.
Reduce to 21 or less
If the sum has three digits, add the first two to the third: 128 → 12 + 8 = 20. That is your first card.
Reduce once more
20 → 2 + 0 = 2, which is your second card. If you land on a single digit, your partner card is 9 above it.
For three-digit sums: add the first two digits to the third.
Reduces to a single digit — its partner card is 9 above.
The special case: 19 unfolds into three cards — The Sun, Wheel of Fortune, and The Magician.

Frequently asked questions
What is a tarot birth card?
Your tarot birth cards are the two (occasionally three) Major Arcana cards derived from your date of birth. Unlike a daily draw, they don’t change — they describe your core gifts, recurring challenges, and the lesson your life keeps circling back to.
How are tarot birth cards calculated?
Write your birth date as four two-digit numbers — MM + DD + YY + YY — and add them. If the sum has three digits, add the first two to the third. Keep reducing until you reach 21 or less: that’s your first card, and reducing it once more gives your second. Our calculator does this instantly.
Why do I have two birth cards instead of one?
The reduction always produces a pair — a higher Major Arcana card and the single digit it reduces to. The two cards are read together: one often describes your outward pattern, the other the inner engine behind it.
Who gets three birth cards?
Only birth dates whose sum reduces to 19. Because 19 reduces to 10, and 10 reduces to 1, this path holds three cards: The Sun, Wheel of Fortune, and The Magician. It is the rarest combination.
Do my birth cards ever change?
No — they are fixed by your date of birth. What changes is how you relate to them: different chapters of life tend to spotlight one card of the pair more than the other.
Are birth cards the same as a daily tarot reading?
No. A reading answers a question using shuffled cards; birth cards are a constant, calculated from your birthday. They work well together — your birth cards describe the path, and a reading shows where you are on it today.
